
Dhekelia Station is home to circa 1250 personnel of which approximately 600 are military; the remainder comprising civil servants, families and contracted personnel. In addition approximately 350 Locally Employed Civilians work on the Station every day. The Station is responsible for providing the best possible firm base to support operations, units and organisations in a sustainable and proactive manner. It is a large and split site which, along with the main Station complex, includes Alexander Barracks, Kingsfield Airfield, 16 Flight (hangars and short runway), the military cemetery and recreation facilities next to the beach.
The Station dates back to the 1950s and now supports 22 units and organisations, the largest of which is the Resident Infantry Battalion, currently The 1st Battalion The Rifles. Other resident units include the Sovereign Base Areas Administration, Joint Service Adventure Training Wing (Cyprus), Cyprus Joint Policing Unit, Cyprus Joint Security Unit, Medical and Dental Centres, 55 Army Education Centre, Operation TOSCA Adventure Training Team, Defence Infrastructure Organisation, primary and secondary schools, Defence Fire and Rescue, and SBA Police. A large number of exercising troops also pass through the Station every year on military training, adventure training and sports camps.
With recent investment, new infrastructure and some excellent recreational facilities Dhekelia is an outstanding place to live and work in Cyprus.
